gelato, mexico, and a market.

Yesterday on my way home I stopped for some gelato. This is just a shot of a street kinda by my house... I thought I'd show you what most of Italy looks like, outside the centro . That pizzeria is always packed full of teenagers, and across the street is my favorite gelateria (also always packed with teenagers)

Yes folks, this is MEXICAN FOOD!!!!! I can't tell you how proud of myself I was for this lil treat. I'm sure it was disgusting, but to me it tasted soooo good. I simply stuck some water, flour and salt in a bowl and rolled out two tortillas which i later fried, and I stuck some beans in a pot, then when all was hot I laid some fresh mozzerella on top, and i'm pretty sure I consumed it within seconds! Giuliana came down to show me how I need to water her plants, and she gave my plate a look that I shant soon forget.

Sorry this is a weird picture... I wasn't really looking when I took it! This is my breakfast at Caffe Stella this morning. I decided I can eat out for breakfast once a week, and I usually do it in this lil gem of a joint right up the street from a market. What you can't see in the pic is the amazing sight across the street! But it's just a bunch of old buildings, nothin you haven't seen before :)

This morning was the market, and I forgot how much it changes in the summer! Today there was a whole new slug of vendors that haven't been there before. This is a shot of one of the fruit carts - I tried for 20 minutes to get something, and all the old ladies kept beating me. It was great :)
Have I mentioned that I don't want to leave? Because whenever I think about going back to Utah, I get this feeling like someone just poured tar into my body.

The gelateria is always packed with teenagers because my school that i went to is on the right in that top picture but you cant really see it because it's back in. Not that school is in right now anyway but yeah...

Oh, Mia Camilla! What a life you have. And if you don't want the Italian Mosquitos to get you, just eat some raw garlic--there oughtta be enough of that around--only problem, guys might not want to be around you either! But seriously, eat garlic, and they won't bite. I'm so glad you're having this adventure--get it all out while you can!

Garlic is a great idea! I actually do eat a lot of raw garlic, but then I finish it off with some gelato or nutella which I'm guess reverses the affect. Oh well :)

In "Under the Tuscan Sun" she talks about the weed-wacking too. She says they do it to keep down the fire hazard.
